The name of this valley is Waboomskraal.&nbsp; It is home to about 75% of South Africa\u2019s hops farms.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5144\" width=\"623\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-980x551.jpg 980w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_140316-logo-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 623px) 100vw, 623px\" \/><figcaption>Views into hidden valleys<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a lesser known hiking trail called \u201cDoringrivier\u201d that takes you all the way to the Ronbinson Pass, which connects Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn, but today we only planned to take a shorter day hike up and over the mountains to a nearby trig beacon.&nbsp; Just as well, because with my unfit state I will never be able to complete a strenuous hike of 50 kilometres.&nbsp; Even the hike to the trig beacon is uphill all the time.&nbsp; (Remember that a trig beacon is normally at the highest point on a mountain!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-911x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5143\" width=\"490\" height=\"551\" srcset=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-911x1024.jpg 911w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-267x300.jpg 267w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-768x864.jpg 768w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-980x1102.jpg 980w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_132438-logo-600x675.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><figcaption>High altitude fynbos<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading a description of the hike they\nmentioned that you can maybe see &nbsp;klipspringer,\ngrey rhebuck, leopard and also some small rodents.&nbsp; We did not see anything like that, only endless\nviews of mountains and valleys covered with fynbos.&nbsp; Once at the trig beacon, and our turn around\npoint for the day, we could see the sun reflecting off the buildings as far\naway as Oudtshoorn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5151\" width=\"630\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-980x551.jpg 980w, http:\/\/travelbucket.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/20180714_133626-LOGO-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><figcaption>View form the top<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The return trip was <em>per se<\/em> not easier, because you are constantly &#8220;breaking&#8221; on the downward slopes not to slip on the loose stones, hence I am saying wear sturdy shoes to support your feet and ankles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Some tips for the hike:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>take some water with you for the hike, as you do not cross any streams at that altitude<\/li><li>wear sturdy hiking shoes as there are a lot of loose stones on the footpath<\/li><li>cell phone reception is not always obtainable on the hike<\/li><li>take something warm as the weather changes quickly<\/li><li>allow a whole morning\/afternoon for the hike if you are not fit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember to do this hike you will have to obtain a permit from Cape Nature in Witfontein.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">&#8212;oOo&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another walk that we as a family enjoyed a lot was the hike along the beach to the shipwreck at Glentana Beach.
